The Antiquity of Leggings
When we talk of Leggings, we tend to associate them with pregnant women who mostly wear them. They are kinds of bottoms that pregnant women can wear since the fabric material is adjustable and flexible. This evolved in Europe from 14th century to 16th Century, which is also known as the Renaissance period. Technically, they are being worn during that period as protection, not just for women, but also for men. It also serves as a warmer for the body. It may have originated in Europe, but it expanded among Native Americans, Russia, and Korea and they were made in leather stockings in colors glossy, bright, brain tan, and vegetable tan. They just served as protection for men and women against bites from insects and other small animals.
The purpose of which has tremendously changed, when this has been known as one of the bottom clothing for women when 19th century begun. These are now limited for women’s access since the manufacturing of it caters the women populace where it became the women’s legging where it has been introduced as part of the women’s fashion collection. There are separate designs created when 19th century came for women or generally refers to adults and younger ones or girls in short. We could see the impact of them in our time that the impressions that only pregnant women can wear. It is not anymore the limited application of it, since this has became not just one of the women’s favorite in 1960s, but is now a part of the closet of every woman where antiquity is preserved.
