Cleaning Teeth With Proper Dental Tools

Dental health is an important part of a person’s overall well-being, and dentists use special tools to help keep our teeth clean and in shape. The skill of a dentist may not matter much without the proper tools, and these tools should be chosen carefully, and maintained regularly.

Every one should have regular dental checkups to check the state of their teeth. Regular tooth brushing is insufficient to maintain proper dental hygiene, and you should always visit a dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned, filled, and maintained.

The most common tool most people associate with dentists would be dental drills. Also known as a dental handpiece, a drill is used before the placing of the filling to remove decayed parts of the teeth, as well as mold the remaining parts into a proper shape. The handpiece may be used to remove old fillings in the tooth before new ones can be placed, and they can also be used to clean and mold root canals.

Another common tool dentists use is the dental scaler. This scary-looking device may come in various shapes or sizes, but it usually resembles a sort of hook at the end. The tips of the scaler is sharp and narrow, to enable the dentist to access hard-to-reach spaces between the teeth. The scaler is used to remove tartar, the plaque which have hardened around the teeth. While brushing and using floss may prevent plaque buildup, once tartar is formed, no amount of brushing and flossing can remove it. Scalers and drills may have to be used so that the health of the teeth can be maintained.
